How Dual Chamber Brake Chambers Work

One of the double-cavity brake air chambers is responsible for the service brake, and the other is responsible for the parking brake. There are two air ports, which are respectively connected to the drive chamber and the parking chamber, and are used to fill different chambers according to different needs. Just deflate to complete the required operation.

Different from small vehicles, medium and heavy trucks require a large braking force to ensure a smooth stop due to their heavy weight and heavy load. But how do air brakes work? Why is the parking brake bigger than the service brake?

● Brake chamber, scientific name brake cylinder

During the braking process of the truck, compressed air is used to push the diaphragm in the brake cylinder, thereby pushing the push rod, and then causing the brake shoes to rub against the brake drum to brake.

Truck brakes are divided into service brakes, parking brakes and auxiliary brakes.

The front wheels responsible for steering have only one service brake cylinder. This type of sub-cylinder is only activated when the vehicle is braked. It has a simple structure, a small size, and is relatively convenient for maintenance and replacement.

The axles responsible for driving and carrying generally adopt larger double-chamber brake chambers. The so-called double cavity means that there are two air chambers inside the brake cylinder. One air chamber is responsible for the service brake, and the other is responsible for the parking brake. It combines the two functions of the service brake and the parking brake, and is widely used on the drive shaft and the trailer shaft.

The structure of the double-cavity brake air chamber is not complicated. It has two air interfaces, which are respectively connected to the driving chamber and the parking chamber. According to different needs, the different chambers can be inflated and deflated to complete the required operations.

Here everyone remembers that the service brake is "ventilation brake", and the parking brake is "air brake".

During service braking, when the driver steps on the brake, only the service chamber located in front of the brake chamber works. At this time, the air enters through No. 11 port, thereby pushing the push rod for braking.

During the parking brake, when the driver stops the vehicle and pulls the parking brake handle, the air flows out from the No. 12 port, the energy storage spring is released, and the push rod is pushed to perform the parking brake.

Releasing the parking brake is just the opposite. When the driver touches the parking brake handle, air enters the rear air chamber through port 12, forcing the spring to retract, the push rod returns, and the parking brake is engaged.

● How to maintain this thing?

Normally designed and manufactured brake cylinders are generally not easy to break. However, if the quality of the spring in the driving cavity is not good, the return ability is weak, which may cause the vehicle to drag the brakes.

The quality of the energy storage spring in the parking cavity is too poor, which will lead to a decrease in the parking braking capacity of the vehicle, leading to serious accidents such as rolling.

If the diaphragm is damaged, it will lead to weakening or even failure of the service braking effect; it will also lead to incomplete release of the parking brake, resulting in dragging the brakes and reporting in advance

All in all, this thing can't be broken anywhere, and if it breaks one place, it will affect the whole body - either it can't stop, or it can't run. Therefore, you need a reliable spring brake chamber.

It should be noted that the parking brake does not rely on compressed air braking, and the braking force is completely provided by the energy storage spring in the wheel cylinder. In order to provide a huge braking force, the energy storage spring located in the parking brake cavity is very powerful. There have also been examples of personal injury caused by some maintenance personnel's illegal operation before. Therefore, do not repair the brake cylinder with energy storage spring by yourself. If the brake cylinder fails, you should go to a professional and qualified repair shop for repair.
