How do leaf springs work?

In the previous article, we introduced what a leaf spring suspension system is. In this article, LUEN will introduce the working principle of the leaf spring in the leaf spring suspension system. Only when we know the working principle of the leaf spring can we understand whether it is suitable for us.

The operating mechanism of the leaf spring is to stack multiple layers of carefully bent spring steel plates to accommodate and evenly distribute the weight load acting on them. When subjected to external forces, the stacked steel sheets of the leaf spring will deform, that is, bend, and they will accumulate energy (potential energy) in the process. Once the external force disappears, this accumulated energy is released immediately, effectively buffering the impact force and helping to maintain the driving stability of large vehicles such as trucks and trailers. The geometry of the steel sheets in the leaf spring and their arrangement are the key factors that determine the elastic characteristics and comprehensive performance of the entire leaf spring suspension system.
