Trailer landing gear maintenance is essential and LUEN landing gear maintenance intervals are recommended every six months or more frequently. Regular lubrication is the best maintenance for LUEN trailer landing legs.
In cold temperatures, and by that I mean below 20°F, lithium or anhydrous calcium extreme pressure grease that can go as low as -65°F can be used, and LUEN also recommends that the gearbox be filled with about 3/4 of grease. This helps minimise moisture build-up, which can freeze and make gears difficult to turn.
For LUEN trailer landing legs lubrication, it is necessary to first fully retract the landing gear, then using the high speed gear, lower the strut 2 to 3 revolutions and lubricate the lifting screw assembly (see landing gear strut in photo below) with 1/2 lb. of grease through grease nipple ‘A’. Then use grease nipple ‘B’ to lubricate the gearbox requiring 1/4 lb of grease and grease nipple ‘C’ to lubricate the bevel gear with 1/4 lb of grease. Finally distribute the lubricant by fully extending and retracting the legs several times.
